Temple Downtown Restaurant is encouraging patrons to do good by helping care for the area’s shelter animals. From now through October 10, the restaurant, located in the Renaissance Providence Hotel, will collect much-needed items for the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA). Each patron who makes a donation will receive a complimentary appetizer.
“We’ve been a part of the Providence community for more than two years and we are always looking for meaningful ways to give back,” said Jeanine Baird, general manager of Temple Downtown. “By hosting our first ‘Paws for a Cause’ event, we hope to bring awareness to the needs of the RISPCA and the amazing work they do to find loving homes for animals who otherwise wouldn’t have one.”
As an upscale American bistro that incorporates a sleek and sophisticated design, Temple Downtown builds its diverse menu on regional culinary influences. The unique interior pays homage to the restaurant’s past as an unfinished Masonic temple by incorporating the graffiti that once donned the temple’s walls into true works of art.
The RISPCA is looking for a number of specific items. Dog supplies – halters and gentle leaders, canned dog food, unopened dry dog food, carpet remnants, leashes and collars, dog treats, fleece blankets, wood shavings, kiddie pools, green turtle sandboxes, dog toys, braided rope tugs, Kongs, Jolly balls, Push ‘n Play Hard balls and Busy Buddy toys. Cat supplies – “Magic” cleaning scrubbers, dry kitten food, cat toys, canned cat food, carpet remnants, harnesses and breakaway collars, cat litter (non-clumping), blankets, quilt batting, fleece fabric, kitten milk replacement, heavy-duty ceramic pet dishes, loose dried catnip and cardboard scratchers. Small animal supplies – Yesterday’s News cat litter, Quick Crete tubes, high-backed square litter boxes, plastic igloos, water bottles, hard-plastic toys, all natural wood or grass chew toys, ferret hammocks, multi-level ferret cages and bird toys. The RISPCA also welcomes cages of all sizes, as long as they are clean and in good condition.
