Latin American Communicators

With just a few months in Miami, (add)ventures is already starting to feel right at home.  Of course the great winter weather helps, but so does the wonderful network of professionals we’re getting to know. In fact, (add)ventures and our friends are playing a part in advancing that network of communications professionals across the region.  Our managing director, Angie Moncada, recently co-founded the Latin America Communicators group with Vivian Kobeh, communications director for Latin America at Nokia.

“We got together for lunch and over the course of conversation realized that there’s no place or organization where communications pros based in Miami who are managing strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean can connect,” said Angie, who served on the board of directors of the Public Relations Society of America’s Southeastern New England chapter before relocating to South Florida last summer.  “It was one of those aha moments.  Vivian just looked at me and said, ‘Let’s start something,” she said.

That aha moment has come to life in the form of a LinkedIn group where more than two dozen marketing and communications leaders are already gathering at a virtual water cooler. With busy schedules and frequent travel, it can be difficult for Latin America communications professionals based in Miami to connect with peers and share ideas.

“One really interesting discussion that we’ve been having is about how corporate communications departments choose what language or languages to use in employee communications,” Angie said. “There are so many variables and options when you’re dealing with multiple languages and dozens of countries and cultures.”

These online conversations and relationships turned into a real-world discussion and collaboration on March 20, when the group hosted its first Lunch and Learn Networker at the new Cane Fire Grill at the Miami Airport Marriott.  Representatives from some of the world’s top brands – including Ryder, Nokia, FedEx and others –were in attendance to network and share their ideas.
