Public Relations for Renaissance Providence Hotel and Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel

Challenge

Renaissance Hotels and Resorts, affiliated with the Marriott International portfolio of branded luxury hotels, sought to generate buzz through public relations for the opening of two new upscale, full-service hotels – the Renaissance Providence Hotel in Rhode Island and the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel in New Jersey. Each faced challenges in securing media coverage and required an aggressive effort that would highlight the uniqueness of each.

Response

(add)ventures worked with Marriott to develop targeted public relations strategies for the opening of both hotels. For the Renaissance Providence Hotel, communications focused on the revitalization of an historic property into a new hotel with luxurious amenities, inspiring surroundings and unique offerings. (add)ventures targeted national, regional and local media outlets with a focus on the historical context of this new travel destination. Outreach also highlighted the hotel’s unique amenities, its commitment to the local community, and its outstanding leadership.

With the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel, (add)ventures focused on how the hotel’s renovations would expand the hotel’s luxury amenities for hotel guests and meeting planners.

Outcome

Before the doors opened for business, (add)ventures had earned the Renaissance Providence Hotel considerable media coverage in local, regional and national media, and in the tourism and hospitality industry in general, including in a New York Times article on the renovation and opening of the hotel, and placement on Conde Nast Traveler’s “Hot List” for one of the hottest new hotels across the globe.

The announcement of the revitalization of the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel garnered attention among travel agents, the business community, and the general public. Modernagent.com, a major online resource for travel agents nationally, ran a story about the renovations. Additionally, NJ Biz, a statewide business newspaper in New Jersey, covered the story. The release also garnered a great deal of awareness of the “new” hotel online and impacted search results for the hotel.
